CPRIT names new CEO

(AUSTIN) Today, the governing body of the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) approved Kristen Doyle as the new CPRIT Chief Executive Officer beginning July 1. Ms. Doyle, currently Deputy Executive Officer and General Counsel, will succeed Wayne Roberts who will step down on June 30 after 12 years as chief executive.

“The Oversight Committee makes many important decisions,” said Roberts, “but perhaps none more important than who leads the talented CPRIT team.  Kristen is the most qualified person to steer CPRIT through the next decade. She has vast institutional knowledge of the agency, the workings of the Capitol community, the life science ecosystem, and cancer research and prevention. With her passion for CPRIT’s mission I know she’s the right person at the right time.”

CPRIT adds $52 million to fight against cancer, names new CEO

(AUSTIN) Today, the governing body of the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) approved $51.8 million in grants to advance the state’s fight against cancer. The grants are a mix of academic research recruitment grants and product development research projects. 

“These grants, like all CPRIT grants, represent the leading edge of cancer research in Texas,” said CEO Wayne Roberts. “They have been thoroughly reviewed, both by CPRIT and cancer expert peers across the county and will push the boundary of innovative cancer research forward for the benefit of all Texans.” 

CPRIT approves almost $100 million in grants to advance the fight against cancer in Texas

(AUSTIN) Today, the governing body of the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) has approved $98,592,155 million in grants to advance the state’s fight against cancer. The grants are a mix of academic research and prevention projects and represents the largest public state commitment to cancer research by any U.S. state.

“Every Texan should be proud of what CPRIT has done today to further the fight against cancer,” said CEO Wayne Roberts. “CPRIT and our grantees are making an impact unlike any other state and today’s vote is continued confirmation that Texas is a national leader in cancer research and prevention.”

CPRIT CEO Roberts Announces Plan To Step Down

(AUSTIN) Today, during the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) quarterly meeting, Wayne Roberts, Chief Executive Officer made the following statement: 

“When I was recruited to CPRIT in late 2012 as interim director, it was made clear that I was temporary, here for the 83rd Legislature and gone.

That interim has lasted longer than expected.  Now, after over eleven years at CPRIT’s helm, I will step aside at the end of June. 

CPRIT receives major public service award from state science organization

(AUSTIN) On Monday, the Texas Academy of Medicine, Engineering, Science and Technology (TAMEST) presented the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) with the Kay Bailey Hutchison Distinguished Service Award at their 2024 Annual Conference held in Austin. Wayne Roberts, CPRIT Chief Executive Officer, and Dr. Michelle Le Beau, CPRIT Chief Scientific Officer, accepted the award on behalf of the agency at the opening reception of the conference held at the AT&T Hotel and Conference Center. Created by the Texas Legislature with overwhelming bipartisan support and validated by the people of Texas in two statewide votes, Texans entrust CPRIT with $6 billion to support groundbreaking research into preventing, diagnosing, treating, and surviving cancer. As a result, CPRIT is the second largest public funder of cancer research in the U.S., following only the National Cancer Institute.
