Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas Awards 14 New Grants

AUSTIN – February is National Cancer Prevention month, and nine of the projects awarded today will help Texans prevent and reduce their risk of cancer. These projects will provide education and screening for breast, cervical and colorectal cancer, the hepatitis virus, as well as vaccinations for HPV and support for cancer survivors. To date, CPRIT’s 172 prevention programs have delivered over three million services all across Texas. The CPRIT Scholars recruitment grants, totaling $22 million, include three to recruit established cancer scientists and two to bring first-time, tenure-track faculty members to academic institutions in Texas. CPRIT has awarded 1,123 grants totaling more than $1.78 billion. The agency began making awards in 2009 after Texas voters overwhelmingly approved a 2007 constitutional amendment committing $3 billion to the fight against cancer.

Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas Awards 48 New Grants

AUSTIN – The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) today awarded 48 new grants totaling more than $93 million towards advancing the fight against cancer. Forty-six grants were made through CPRIT’s academic research program, and two grants were made through CPRIT’s product development research program.

“The awards announced today reflect CPRIT’s effort to grow the cancer-fighting ecosystem at our institutions of higher education and the Texas-based life sciences industry,” said Wayne Roberts, CPRIT chief executive officer, “We continue to maintain our momentum in attracting the world’s best minds in cancer research to Texas.”

AUSTIN – The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) today awarded 14 new grants totaling more than $50 million towards advancing the fight against cancer. All 14 grants were made through CPRIT’s academic research program, including ten CPRIT Scholars recruitment grants and four Core Facility Support Awards.

To date, CPRIT has awarded 1,070 grants totaling more than $1.67 billion. The agency began making awards in 2009 after Texas voters overwhelmingly approved a 2007 constitutional amendment committing $3 billion to the fight against cancer.

Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas Awards 26 New Grants

AUSTIN — The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) today awarded 26 new grants totaling just over $61.5 million. Twelve of the grants were made through CPRIT’s academic research program, including five CPRIT Scholars recruitment grants, and fourteen through its prevention program.

CPRIT Awards 35 New Grants, Surpasses the Halfway Point of its Authorized Funding

AUSTIN — The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) today surpassed the halfway point of its funding authority after awarding 35 new grants totaling around $79.2 million. Thirty-three of the grants were made through CPRIT’s academic research program and two through its product development research program.

To date, CPRIT has awarded 1,033 grants totaling more than $1.57 billion. The agency was launched in 2009 after Texas voters overwhelmingly approved a 2007 bond issue committing $3 billion to the fight against cancer.

Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas Marks Progress at the Halfway Point of its Funding

AUSTIN - Leadership of the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) today held a press conference at the State Capitol to review progress in its prevention, academic research and product development research programs at the halfway point of the agency’s authorized funding.

CPRIT was launched in 2009 after Texas voters overwhelmingly committed $3 billion in the fight against cancer. To date, CPRIT has awarded 998 grants totaling $1,496,398,115. Tomorrow, the CPRIT Oversight Committee will make decisions expected to push the cumulative award total to more than $1.5 billion.
