CPRIT illustrates global impact with $63 million to bring innovative researchers and companies to Texas from around the world

(AUSTIN) The governing body of the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) has approved $63 million in grants that illustrate the agency’s reach not only in Texas but around the world. The grants include recruitment of a cancer researcher from Switzerland and an Israeli company developing a new product to ease the burden on breast cancer patients. The CPRIT Oversight Committee approved awards at their quarterly meeting held today at the Barbara Jordan State Office Building in Austin.

“Today’s slate of awards clearly illustrates how CPRIT is making Texas a global leader in cancer research,” said CPRIT CEO Wayne Roberts. “Whether it’s Switzerland, Israel, Houston, or Dallas, CPRIT is funding the innovators and the ideas that will change the future in the fight against cancer. Around the world, CPRIT has made Texas the new home for innovation in medical research and life science.”

CPRIT CEO Recognized by Texas Healthcare and Bioscience Institute at Fall Summit

(AUSTIN) At its annual Fall Policy Summit at the Stephen F. Austin Hotel in downtown Austin, the Texas Healthcare and Bioscience Institute (THBI) recognized CPRIT Chief Executive Officer Wayne Roberts with its highest honor, the Luminary Award. Each year, THBI’s membership nominates individuals who have had an impact on the life science and biotech community through policy, advocacy, and research.

ARPA-H is coming to Texas!

(AUSTIN) Today the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), announced that it has selected Dallas, Texas, to serve as one of its three national headquarters. ARPA-H is charged with identifying transformative and broadly accessible solutions to the most challenging health care problems, from cancer, Alzheimer’s and AIDS to equitable health care delivery and cost containment. Washington D.C. and Boston, Massachusetts, will join Dallas as critical national hubs supporting the dynamic needs of ARPA-H programs.

CPRIT awards more than $49 million to Texas institutions for cancer research and prevention

(AUSTIN) The governing board of the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) took another major step in the fight against cancer by approving over $49 million in new cancer research and prevention grants at its quarterly meeting on Wednesday. Of the 29 grants approved by the Oversight Committee, significant awards included the first CPRIT Scholar award to Southern Methodist University in Dallas, state funding for Baylor Research Institute to join a major National Cancer Institute study, and numerous targeted TREC awards to cancer research centers outside major Texas metropolitan areas.

CPRIT announces speaker list for upcoming Innovations VI conference

(AUSTIN) The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas announced its lineup of keynote speakers, moderators, and presenters for its Innovations VI Conference taking place in Galveston on October 2-3. The list includes luminaries from across the cancer research and prevention field, including national cancer leaders, and innovators in prevention, basic, clinical and translational research, and corporate product development.

CPRIT visits Texas Tech El Paso to spotlight major new state cancer research grant

(AUSTIN) Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) CEO Wayne Roberts and others joined President of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (Texas Tech El Paso) Richard Lange and local leaders for a press conference on Friday, July 28th to spotlight a major new cancer research grant awarded to the university. The $6 million CPRIT grant (RP230420) supports the creation of a Texas Regional Excellence in Cancer (TREC) initiative at the university, which will focus on impacting cancer outcomes among Hispanics in the region.
