(AUSTIN) Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed Cindy Barberio Payne to the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas Oversight Committee for a term set to expire on January 31, 2031. Ms. Payne was first appointed to the position in 2020.

“We’re thrilled that CPRIT will continue to benefit from Ms. Payne’s wisdom, experience, and leadership as we make progress toward our mission to conquer cancer for all Texans,” said CPRIT Chief Executive Officer Kristen Doyle. “She is a tremendous asset to the Oversight Committee, and I thank Governor Abbott for this reappointment and his support of CPRIT.”

Cindy Barberio Payne of Spring Branch is a self-employed Certified Public Accountant with expertise in financial consulting, asset management, and financial statement analysis. In addition to other professional roles, she previously served as chief financial officer for Baptist Child & Family Services. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants. She volunteers on the board of Bulverde Spring Branch Pregnancy Care Center and previously volunteered as staff appreciation chair for the Smithson Valley High School PTA, and as the past treasurer of the Spring Branch Tennis Association. Payne received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from The University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Business Administration, with a focus in international business, from St. Mary’s University.

The Governor, the Lieutenant Governor and the Speaker of the House appoint the members of the Oversight Committee. The board meets at least once every quarter to set the priorities for the agency and to approve proposed, peer-reviewed cancer research and prevention grant awards to institutions, organizations, and companies throughout the state.
