(AUSTIN, TX) CPRIT is proud to introduce the 2024 CPRIT Annual Report, a web-based review of our fifteenth year as the state’s cancer-fighting agency.
Created by the Texas Legislature with overwhelming bipartisan support and approved by the people of Texas through two statewide votes, CPRIT is a $6 billion investment in groundbreaking research into preventing, diagnosing, treating, and surviving cancer. As of August 31, 2024, CPRIT has awarded more than $3.65 billion to 144 entities and institutions across Texas through 2,017 merit-based, independently peer reviewed grants. CPRIT is now the second largest public funder of cancer research in the U.S., following only the National Cancer Institute.
In this year’s report, CPRIT shines a spotlight on our grantees’ work in cancer clinical trials, an essential component of CPRIT’s mission. Researchers conduct cancer clinical studies to test innovative approaches to help find safe and effective options to prevent, detect, treat, and cure cancer in Texas. Throughout the report, we provide examples of ongoing CPRIT-funded clinical research and what it can mean for those suffering from the burden of cancer in Texas. We also highlight evidence-based cancer prevention strategies - such as educational interventions, screenings, and cancer vaccinations - employed across the state that are improving Texans’ health now and saving lives.
A new Clinical Trials Overview section of the Annual Report features a clinical trial primer video by clinical oncologist Dr. David Gerber as well as a collection of "flip cards" detailing selected CPRIT-funded clinical trials.
The 2024 CPRIT Annual Report also includes an interactive map that shows all CPRIT prevention program grants sorted by legislative district. CPRIT grants helped deliver over 10 million prevention services to Texans in all 254 counties and the map provides a visual representation of that accomplishment.
