Many cancer patients experience severe chronic pain, which in turn can lead to chronic stress in cancer patients, promoting tumor development and creating a vicious cycle. Therefore, effective pain management is a key to not only improving cancer patients’ quality of life but also slowing down the progression of cancer. Spinal cord projection neurons are attractive therapeutic targets for treating cancer pain because they carry all pain signals emanating from the tumor microenvironment to the brain.
