The CPRIT Scholar Program aims to train exceptional predoctoral students in cancer-related fields by providing: 1. Rigorous training in basic biological and biophysical concepts pertaining to cancer. 2. Flexible opportunities for advanced training in specific areas of cancer research. 3. Training in ethical conduct and career skills, to foster career success. 4. Increased participation of underrepresented individuals in cancer research through active recruitment and retention efforts. 5. High-quality mentoring by prominent cancer researchers to enhance career development and encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration. The CPRIT TRIUMPH program aims to produce translational scientists who can establish independent translational research laboratories by providing: 1. Formal translational training through didactic course work, including methods to devise and execute protocol research involving humans in clinical trials. 2. Hands-on training in 5 different oncology-based clinics, designed to introduce the fellow to different disease sites and modalities in cancer patients. 3. The best possible mentoring by the most successful translational researchers and physician/scientists at the #1 cancer center in the country, to position the TRIUMPH fellow for a successful independent career in translational research. The CPRIT Summer Undergraduate Research Program is aimed at (1) providing an interactive and fulfilling experience in cancer research to talented undergraduate students, emphasizing recruitment of underrepresented minorities by outreach to selected universities and (2) attracting outstanding undergraduates to a career in cancer research by exposing them to interactions with CPRIT Scholars and CPRIT TRIUMPH fellows. The CPRIT training program will be led by Dr. Ray DuBois, Principal Investigator (PI) and Provost and Executive Vice-President at UTMDACC, in conjunction with co-PIs Drs. Oliver Bogler, Khandan Keyomarsi and Stephanie Watowich.
