Lay Summary |
For the past decade our laboratory has worked on developing new therapies with adult stem/progenitor cells that can easily be obtained from patients who will be treated with the cells. We are using the cells to develop new treatments for diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and arthritis. We recently discovered we can make the produce a protein (TRAIL) that kills cancer cells. The discovery is of special interest because the cells are known to home to cancers, especially cancers located in the lung. The aim of the project is to determine whether we can use adult stem/progenitor cells to provide new therapies for cancers of the lung. |
