This project addresses the need for cancer prevention, risk reduction, and early detection education and activities, particularly in under-served groups, especially those living in rural areas of Texas. This project addresses the need for cancer prevention, risk reduction, and early detection education and activities, particularly in under-served groups, especially those living in rural areas of Texas. Training and resources provided by regional program coordinators for this project will enable county Extension Agents (officed in 250 of Texas’ 254 counties) and their volunteers to strengthen their ability to reach these under-served Texans with cancer prevention and risk reduction and early detection information.

The project will partner with the Texas Education Agency this fall for an initiative to increase children’s physical activity through AgriLife’s Walk Across Texas program. Best practice and recognized evidence based programs that will be used to implement activities include: Towards No Tobacco (TNT), Cultivando la Salud, Walk Across Texas, Balance Food and Play, Hallelujah to Health, Sun Safety, Put it Outside, and Master Wellness Volunteers.
