Cancer immunotherapy is a form of cancer treatment that helps a patient’s immune system fight cancer. While the field of immunotherapy, and more specifically a class of agents called immune checkpoint blockade, has dramatically improved survival of cancer patients in the last decade, it has not been as successful in improving outcomes of breast cancer patients.
A breast medical oncologist, Dr. Reddy was recruited from MD Anderson Cancer Center to UT Southwestern Medical Center to address this area of need with the help of a First-Time Tenure-Track Award from CPRIT. As a translational investigator and clinical trialist, she is studying the immune environment within patients’ breast cancers, and testing novel treatment strategies to increase the number of patients that will benefit from these immunotherapies.
