I have been actively involved in cancer research for more than fifteen years. I received my Ph.D. degree in Pharmacology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. I studied the molecular mechanisms underlying the development of therapeutic resistance in prostate cancer. From my graduate work, I realized the important role of chromatin structure in regulation of gene expression. With this in mind, I joined Dr. Myles Brown’s group at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute right after finishing my Ph.D. The Brown lab is at the forefront of research that studies the interaction between transcription (co)factors and chromatin in hormone-related cancers.
During my postdoctoral training, I developed a great passion for cancer epigenetics. In 2015, I started my own lab in the Department of Molecular Medicine at UT Health San Antonio. We continue to explore the functions of epigenetics in human diseases including cancer. My past research experience provided me with a solid background in cancer biology and with technical expertise in next-generation sequencing technologies, bioinformatics, molecular biology as well as protein chemistry. All the knowledge is essential for the development of my scientific career.
