Although early in her career, Dr. Gloria Echeverria has already distinguished herself through impactful basic and translational cancer research combined with an ability to consistently obtain independent funding. She obtained her Ph.D. with Dr. Thomas Cooper at Baylor College of Medicine where she studied pre-mRNA splicing regulation in myotonic dystrophy type 1. During her postdoctoral studies, she conducted translational cancer research with Dr. Helen Piwnica-Worms at MD Anderson. She merged state-of-the-art in vivo models of breast cancer, quantitative biology, functional genomics, and preclinical studies. Her work elucidated intra-tumor heterogeneity in chemo resistant and metastatic breast cancers. Her findings have been published in high-impact journals and publicized with oral and poster presentations at several national conferences.
