Summary of Goals and Objectives |
APOBEC-mediated DNA deamination dominates the mutational landscape of many tumors including those of the bladder, breast, cervix, head/neck, lung, and ovary. We discovered the DNA deaminase activity of APOBEC family members, the pivotal role of APOBEC3B (A3B) in breast and other cancer types, and key aspects of underlying molecular mechanism. Our findings provide the foundation to elucidate the molecular, biochemical, and structural details of the APOBEC mutagenesis process in cancer, to uncover novel synthetic lethal interactions that may be developed into novel therapies for APOBEC-positive tumors, and leverage viral and chemical knowledge to develop potent APOBEC inhibitors as a complemen... |
